This article explains how to start a live moderated session in FC Qual. Steps apply to both the main Fuel Cycle platform and Legacy Platform views. Sign in using your Fuel Cycle credentials.
Access Your Session
Access FC Qual from the Fuel Cycle Platform
- Click the Research Tools icon (hammer and wrench) in the left menu.
- Select FC Qual. The platform opens in a new tab.
- Confirm you're connected to the correct community. Change your community in the top left if needed.
Access FC Qual from the Legacy Platform
- From the Dashboard, click FC Qual in the top navigation bar.
- Confirm you're connected to the correct community. Change your community in the top left if needed.
Select the Study
On the FC Qual home screen, click the study card to open it. Study titles are visible to participants, so they may be blinded to the name.
Start the Session
Click Start Session in the top-right corner of the study page.
Recording starts automatically at the beginning of a Moderated Study session. A timer notification confirms that the recording is active. If a researcher needs to stop the recording early, a Stop Recording button is available during the session.
Join as a Moderator
- In the session pop-up, select Join as Moderator.
- Click Continue.
Confirm Your Device Setup
- Review your camera, microphone, and speaker settings.
Click Join Now to enter the session.
Tip: You can blur or change your background after joining.
Use Moderator Controls
Once inside the session, use the bottom toolbar to manage your settings and tools.
Center toolbar controls
- Mic and camera toggle—Mute/unmute and turn video on/off.
- Screen share—Share your screen with participants.
- Device settings—Select audio and video sources.
- Background—Blur or change your background.
- Participant link—Copy the direct link to the session.
Right-side toolbar controls
- Start recording—Click Start Recording at the beginning of each session. Sessions do not record automatically.
- Observer chat—Send private messages to observers.
- Participant chat—Send messages to participants.
- Notes—Take internal, timestamped notes (not visible to participants).
- People tab—View who joined as a participant or observer.
