A cross-tabulation, or contingency, table (crosstab) is an analytical tool used in market research to examine the relationship between two or more variables. Crosstabs organize data into categories and display them in a grid format, allowing researchers to identify patterns and relationships among respondent groups quickly.
Typical uses for Crosstabs include survey analysis, segmentation studies, brand tracking studies, customer satisfaction surveys, and other quantitative research.
The workflow is to create a new data set, open the Crosstabs app, adjust your data set, and then select which data to use for crosstab tables.
To activate Crosstabs, Submit a Request to the DevOps/Product team.
Create a New Data Set
- Click the Reporting tab at the top of the page. The landing page will be the FC analytics dashboard screen.
- Create an FC Analytics data set to send to the Crosstabs application. If you have MarketSight integration enabled, you can also create a dataset to send to MarketSight.
- Once you've selected the fields you'd like to create in the data set, click Save. You are redirected back to the FC Analytics dashboard.
- Once you create a data set, the data set entry will display as processing until it's ready. The dataset will be ready for you once you see the Action drop-down.
Adjust Your Data Set
- Select Create Crosstabs from your data set's Action menu. Your Crosstabs application opens in a new browser window. You will automatically log in to the app through a single sign-on process.
- If you wish to manipulate your data at all, you can do so in this data processing tab.
-
You can choose to upload a new CSV file if needed from the left side of the screen.
NOTE: This will completely replace the previously uploaded content. To add more to your existing data file, create a new data set within FC Analytics.
- You will primarily want to rename your column labels to make them more clearly defined.
- You're also able to create categorical variables and merge any data that you need to.
Create Crosstabs
- Once you have massaged your data, select the crosstabs tab to use these data fields to create a crosstab. Saving is automatic in this app as you switch between tabs.
- Use filters on any field in your dataset.
- Implement heat mapping and chi-square tests, or adjust your confidence intervals for those fields.
- Create your crosstab based on the data rows and columns of your choice. For example, you might choose gender and income. You may select multiple rows and columns.
- Choose your measures to choose which data you would like to see most often. For example, you might want to see a total count combined with the percent of the total.
- Click Create. Your crosstab generates results within moments (though larger datasets may take some time).
Edit and rerun your crosstab at any time by manipulating the variables on the left and regenerating the table.
Download this table at any time to an Excel sheet by clicking the Download button in the bottom left.
