Whether you have fully re-profiled members, asked the same or similar questions in a follow-up study, or want to leverage an uploaded CSV with historical member data, you may have many reasons to update existing P2 fields. This article explains how to update an existing P2 Engine field to add extra sources for member profile data.
To locate the P2 field list...
- Click the Members tab from the left navigation bar.
- Click Manage Members.
- Click the P2 Engine tab. You will see the table of currently available P2 fields.
Search for the question field that you want to update, or scroll down the list of P2 fields.
- Once located, click the hyperlinked name in the first column to enter the edit screen.
- Feel free to adjust any fields or settings on this page as needed.
- The focus will be on adding additional question sources. Scroll down to see the section titled Question Sources.
Under Source type, choose between a poll, a survey, or an External source depending on where your new data is coming from.
Adding more question sources to a profile field only works if the answer options are consistent across each source. For example, you cannot add two sources on "Household Income" if the income bracket answer options are not the same across all questions.P2 Points built off of Qualtrics and Alchemer surveys do not support carry forward or piping text. To achieve this same function in the survey, use display logic on the answer options to be able to pull all text into the P2 Engine.
- Once you have located the new question source title and question, click Add to formally designate. We recommend selecting Auto-create so the answers for the new question source will automatically map, correlating to the answer groups already created when you originally programmed this profile field.
- The new question source will now appear below your original source.
- The order in which the sources are listed determines the priority with which the system adds this data to a member's profile. The source at the top receives the highest priority.
- If a member has no data for a given source, the system will look for data in the next source, and so on. If you want this new source to have priority, click and drag it to the top of the "question sources" list. You can also use the up/down arrows to the right of the column.
- Clicking "X" will remove a question source from the list.
- Repeat this process for any additional question sources you need to add. If you need to make further adjustments to the settings in the final sections on the page, feel free to do so.
- Once ready, click Save to continue.
- You will now see all the answer options that were previously programmed. We recommend checking all of the answer options for accuracy.
- Once back on the P2 Engine table page, click Refresh Data. This tells the system that there are changes to the P2 Engine. You do not need to stay on the page while the page refreshes.
New Grid Questions
If your new question source is a grid question, these Answers will be based on the "Columns" of your question.
Click into any pre-mapped answer value block to view the Answer Text and Answer Reference that was auto-created, to ensure that the answer values for the new question source are mapped correctly.
Under the "Selected Answers" box, you will now see multiple answer options that appear duplicated. We recommend checking all of the answer options for accuracy.
The numbers next to each answer correlate to the number of priorities you set on the previous page. Your first question source will have a "1", your second source will have a "2", and so on.
While the order of the question sources is important because of system prioritization, the order of the answer values does not matter. We recommend checking all of the answer options for accuracy.
If your new question source is a grid question, then you will land on the "Choices" page, so you can repeat the previous steps to ensure the accuracy of the "Rows" associated with your question.
Once you are back on the P2 Engine dashboard, click Refresh Data. This tells the system that there are changes to the P2 Engine. You do not need to stay on the page while the refresh is in progress.
