A quest is a collection of actions, connected with logic, offering one or more rewards for a successful completion.
Quests Tab
Set up a collection of actions, connected with logic, offering one or more rewards for successful completion. Click the + button on this screen to get started.
After saving your Quest for the first time, a Quest Status is added to the Quest with the following values:
- Created—The quest has been created but is not running yet, because the quest start date is still in the future.
- Running—The quest start date has passed and the quest is running. Members performing the quest's steps are considered to have completed the quest if the moderator doesn't deny the gamification eligibility of their actions.
- Stopped—The quest has been manually stopped by the moderator. Quest cannot be restarted.
- Ended—The quest end date has passed. Members can continue to perform the quest's steps, but they will not count toward completing the quest.
- Completed—All quest participants have been processed, and the participants and winners lists are complete.

Scenario 1: Using Quests for Diary Studies
A week-long diary study schedule:
- Day 1: Comment on Discussion #1 AND Take Survey #1
- Day 2: Take Survey #2
- Day 3: Make two comments on Discussion #2
- Day 4: Comment on Discussion #3 AND Take Survey #3
- Day 5: Comment on Wrap-Up Discussion OR Take Wrap-Up Survey
Setup – Prerequisite: Before you set up the logic in the “Actions and logic” tab, you must create all of the content activities you plan on including in the quest. In this case, you would create Survey #1, Survey #2, Survey #3, Wrap-up Survey, Discussion #1, Discussion #2, Discussion #3, and Wrap-Up Discussion before you set up the quest. You can schedule all of these activities to launch on their corresponding days. For a diary study, you want the first OR/AND button to be switched to AND. Having the first switch turned to AND will make a member have to complete all activities from Day 1 – 5 in order to complete the quest. If a member completes all activities except for Day 3’s activities, they will not be eligible to receive the reward for completing the diary study.
Please note, that you can edit an activity at any time, however you cannot edit the “Actions and logic” once it has been set up.
Actions and Logic Setup
Day 1: Since members have to complete two activities, switch the OR/AND switch to AND. Select “Comment/Reply on content” as the action. Enter the discussion title and set the start and end date that the action must be completed.
Next, click on the first ‘+’ button to add the second action for Day 1, which is to complete Survey #1. In the Action box, select “Take content survey” then type in the name of the content piece which has the survey associated with it.
Finally, select the time frame (which will be the same as for Discussion #1).
Here is what Day 1’s setup looks like:
Day 2: To add Day 2’s actions, click on the second ‘+’ sign to add the layer.
Switch the OR/AND to AND. Select “Take content survey” in the Action box. Enter the content title that the survey is attached to. And set the start and end date, which in this case will be the next day.
Day 3: Click on the second ‘+’ sign to add Day 3 to the logic. Select “Comment/Reply on content”. Then enter the title of the Discussion and set the start and end date to the next day (Day 3). Since the members must make two comments in order to complete this activity, enter ‘2’ in the “Minimum Count” box.
Day 4: The setup is the same as Day 1. Just make sure to set the start and end date to Day 4.
Day 5: The setup is the same as Day 1 however the OR/AND Switch must be switched to OR for this day since members can either take the Wrap-Up Survey OR Comment on the Wrap-Up Discussion.
Click on ‘Save and Continue’ at the bottom. If you are ready to publish the diary study click on ‘Save and Publish’. Remember, once you publish the quest, the actions and logic are set in stone and cannot be changed.
Scenario 2
You are planning on running a recruitment campaign and want to reward new members with bonus points. In order for a member to earn bonus points, they must: activate their account, upload a profile photo, and link their account with either Facebook, Twitter, Google, or LinkedIn. Members have three days to complete these actions in order to complete the quest.
Setup – Given that members must complete three actions in order to complete the quest, switch the first OR/AND switch to ‘AND’.
The first action that must be completed is for a member to activate their account. Select ‘Activate account’ from the actions drop-down menu. In this case, the start and end date will be three days apart which sets the time frame for when this action must be completed.
Next, click on the second ‘+’ sign to add the second action that a member must complete to finish the quest. Select ‘Upload profile photo’ from the actions drop-down menu and set the 3-day time frame.
Finally, click on the second ‘+’ sign again to add the third action to the quest. Since members can either link their Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or Google account, set the OR/AND switch to ‘OR’. That way, when a member links one of those 4 accounts, it will complete the action.
Click on ‘Save and Continue’ at the bottom. If you are ready to publish the diary study click on ‘Save and Publish’. Remember, once you publish the quest, the actions and logic are set in stone and cannot be changed.
