Blacklisting and Whitelisting Domains and IP Addresses

Blacklisting (blocking) and whitelisting (enabling) email addresses with certain domain extensions and IP addresses are supported by Fuel Cycle. Doing so requires coordination with your contact at Fuel Cycle and is typically completed during the onboarding process, but is possible to complete later.

By blacklisting, you prevent people certain email addresses (such as @gmail.com or @yourcompetitor.com) or IP addresses (IP address of competitors) from registering for the community.

  • When an email address domain is black-listed, this will prevent the community member from completing the member registration process with the black-listed email address domain.  Members who attempt to register for your community using a black-listed email domain will receive a notification that the email address they are attempting to use is invalid and cannot be used to complete registration.
  • When an IP address is black-listed, this will prevent the community member from a black-listed IP address from ever accessing your community’s domain address.  The community member will receive a “403 Error” message on their browser, which means their IP address is absolutely forbidden from accessing your community’s domain.

By whitelisting, you ensure only people with certain email addresses (such as your @yourcompany.com) or IP addresses (IP addresses for your corporate network) can access the community.

  • When an email address domain is white-listed, community members will only be able to register with an email address domain that is white listed.  Members who attempt to register with an email address domain that is not white-listed will receive a notification that the email address they are attempting to use is invalid and cannot be used to complete registration.
  • When an IP address is white-listed, this will only allow community members from white-listed IP addresses to access your community’s domain address.

Please reach out to your contact at Fuel Cycle if you have any specific questions about blacklisting and whitelisting email address domains or IP addresses.
