To pass P2 data from Fuel Cycle into a Qualtrics survey, you need to set up the survey's Embedded Data block. This block ensures respondent attributes, such as demographics, interests, and behaviors, are included in the survey for logic or analysis. Contact data will only appear after the community launches and members start signing up. If you're preparing the survey before launch, wait to finalize the mapping until after launch to prevent blank values.
There are two ways to update a Qualtrics survey's Embedded Data block to ensure P2 data pulls through from Fuel Cycle:
- Manual entry — Paste the P2 point's reference text directly into the Create New Field dropdown text box (highlighted in blue). Only recommended for single-select P2 points.
-
Add From Contacts — Click Add From Contacts (highlighted in yellow), then select
My Library > Fuel Cycle > [Your Community Name], and choose the P2 points to add. This method supports single-select, multi-select, and grid P2 fields, as well as groups configured to push to Qualtrics.
There are two main workflows for mapping P2 fields:
Workflow 1: Setting Up a Base Survey
Use this process when configuring a survey template or a first-time project that you intend to use after the community launch.
- Wait until your Fuel Cycle community is launched and users begin registering.
- Launch Qualtrics, open your survey, and go to Survey Flow.
- Click Add a New Element Here and choose Embedded Data.
- Use one of the two methods to add P2 fields:
-
Manual entry for single-select points: Click Add a New Field, then enter the P2 reference text (e.g.,
P2_Gender). Leave the value blank. -
Add From Contacts for all field types: Click Add From Contacts, navigate to
My Library > Fuel Cycle > [Your Community Name], and select the P2 fields you want to include.
-
Manual entry for single-select points: Click Add a New Field, then enter the P2 reference text (e.g.,
- Move the Embedded Data block to the top of the flow to ensure values load before any logic or questions use them.
- Click Apply to save changes.
- In Fuel Cycle, click Force Qualtrics Panel Update to sync data to Qualtrics.
- Wait for the nightly sync (midnight ET) to complete before testing.
Workflow 2: Editing an Existing Survey
Use this process when modifying a live or draft survey to include new P2 data fields.
- Launch Qualtrics, open your survey, and go to Survey Flow.
- Locate the current Embedded Data block or add a new one.
-

- In Fuel Cycle, click Force Qualtrics Panel Update to push the changes.

Formatting Notes
Qualtrics encodes complex field types using a pipe delimiter:
- Multi-select or grid values:
Interest|Technology,Interest|Fitness - Group fields:
Group|groupname
This format appears in exports and helps interpret responses.
Default P2 Fields Automatically Synced
These P2 fields are always pushed to Qualtrics; you do not need to map them manually:
- Age
- Gender
- Role
- TestAccount
- Username
- Recruitment
Troubleshooting
If P2 data is missing or incomplete in survey responses:
- Confirm the community has launched and users have registered.
- Verify the fields are configured to push to Qualtrics.
- Use Force Qualtrics Panel Update if fields were recently added or edited.
- Ensure the Qualtrics contact list is linked to the correct Fuel Cycle community.
